I wouldn't say Kress makes me mad. In fact, he energizes me, in a sense. My specific problem with him is that he 1) makes bad leaps with the theoretical systems he attempts to use (particularly semiotics) and 2) I think is construction of the dominating forces are a bit upside-down. In this last case, he effectively remarks, not that the ways we "read" will reflect the new dominance of the screen, but that it will reflect the dominance of the image. This is because, to Kress, the image organizes and controls the screen, the mode dominates the medium. I consider this approach fundamentally flawed for reasons I try to describe in my blog. (see below).
